history

The church is a little higher in the north of the village. It is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The foundation walls stand on the foundations of a Roman fort. The two-bay, Romanesque hall church with a slightly recessed, straight, single-bay choir was built around 1200. The choir emerged from the former castle chapel. In 1544 the church became a branch of Petronell and in 1783 a branch of Regelsbrunn.

Church building

The church consists of unplastered, solid ashlar masonry, presumably two-shelled , as the wall thickness is up to 2.0 m. The facade is structured by corner pilasters and the surrounding plinth with an accompanying profile. The church has six deep, arched funnel windows. On the north side of the nave facing the former castle, a deep Romanesque arched portal, framed with a large bulge, is walled up. A Romanesque round arch frieze with a tooth cut extends under the eaves of the choir . In 1811 the building was raised by approx. 60 cm and covered with a hipped roof. A groin vaulted portal porch was added to the west. A brick turret with a pointed helmet was erected on the nave roof in the west in 1848. The sacristy connects to the choir in the north.

The nave and the somewhat lower choir have cross vaults with broad ribbon ribs that rest on half-columns with capitals. The yokes in the nave are separated by belt arches. The deep triumphal arch consists of a round arch on corbels. The two-axis, groin-vaulted west gallery rests on the two belt arches with a square pillar in the middle and two strong wall pillars on the outer walls.

The ornamental stained glass dates from the third quarter of the 20th century.
