The Protestant village church St. Petri-Pauli is located in the community of Favoredt in the district of Sömmerda in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish area Weißensee in the parish of Eisleben-Sömmerda of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

As early as the Middle Ages, it was a popular place of pilgrimage, and thanks to the sale of indulgences, it became particularly well known beyond the region. In 1276 an "ecclesia in Gunstete" is mentioned. The church building made of natural stones is tripartite. While the Gothic choir probably dates from the 14th century, the nave and tower were built between 1705 and 1716; they represent a baroque building corresponding to the time. Equipment and fixtures from this time, for example the altar and the baptismal font, are almost completely preserved. The artistically above-average quality painting of the church interior and the ceilings and galleries with biblical depictions of the Old and New Testaments goes far beyond the usual amount of peasant painting. A plaque that was installed in the church when the painting work was completed in 1728 explains: “This heavenly vault with the arch on both sides, presents in pictures after the three main stands the duties of a true Christian pointing to heaven to help faithfully to live in a godly manner, to suffer and to die blessedly ”. With the 300 year old ceiling paintings , the church is also an architectural monument . According to the inscription, the organ was built in 1806-13.

KiBa Foundation

With the help of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the KiBa Foundation , the choir roof was renewed in 2010, a new slate covering and the sponge renovation were also carried out.
