Chapel of St. Roch and Isidore

The Catholic Chapel of St. Rochus and Isidor is a listed church building in Ense in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The half-timbered chapel with a three-sided end was built in 1729. (Another source, the protocol report of a Cologne auxiliary bishop, states the time before April 6, 1727 as the construction time) The slate hip roof was crowned with a ridge turret. A small bell hung in this roof turret. It is not known when the first bell was hung and how long it was used. This bell had to be delivered and melted down during the Second World War in 1942, together with a candlestick and the two brass altar bells. In 1947 the smallest bell of the former Bilmer chimes was hung in the roof turret. As it was too heavy for the ridge turret, a frame was built next to the chapel in which it served until 1969. In the same year the Humpert bell foundry from Brilon delivered a new bronze bell with the inscription Oberense - A. Junker - Brilon / 1947 Faithfulness 1729/1862 Steadfast in virtue / Saint Rochus protect Oberense .

A fundamental renovation of the building took place in 1862.

In the lower part of the altar are the figures of St. Roch and Cecilia.
