The previous church in Arnsberg was burned down during the Thirty Years War . In 1770 the church was rebuilt according to plans by Maurizio Pedetti in the high baroque style. After the war the plague ruled the population , so the church was dedicated to the patron saint against the plague, St. Sebastian . The pilgrimage to Arnsberg began at this time. Even today there is an annual pilgrimage from Hirnstetten and from Kösching . In the list of monuments it has the identifier D-1-76-138-45 and is described there as follows:
Catholic branch church St. Sebastian, hall building with a little retracted choir and hipped roof, based on plans by Maurizio Pedetti , 1770, tower construction on a late Gothic core (1459?); with equipment.
inner space
On the high altar hangs a picture of St. Sebastian, which was painted by J. Stegmiller between 1850 and 1860. The high altar around 1800 is classicistic . The side altars from the early Rococo come from the secular Notre Dame church in Eichstätt and have been in Arnsberg since 1811. They were created by Ehrgott Bernhard Bendl and Johann Georg Bergmüller .
