history

Wassergrund was founded in 1779 by the owner of the Taubenheimer Rittergüter, Karl Heinrich von Zezschwitz, on the corridors of the Obertaubenheim estate. Each of the 20 settlers received three bushels of field and meadow land. The new settlers were the sons of Taubenheim farmers who the landlord was able to keep in the village. In 1785 there were already 27 houses in the water.

In 1830 the road from Wendisch-Sohland to Oppach was laid south of the village. At the intersection with the road from Taubenheim to Lindenberg, a road house as well as other residential buildings and a brick factory were built.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the Wassergrund industrial park was built southeast of the village on the Oppach district. In 1993 the Oppacher Mineralquellen started up their new bottling plant there. Since the 2000s, the industrial area has been extended to Taubenheimer Flur.

Wassergrund always belonged to the Taubenheim community and was incorporated into Sohland in 1994.

Townscape

The water ground consists of two rows of cottagers, which extend on both sides of the edges of a wide meadow hollow with the stone pond through which the water ground ditch flows.

Four houses have surrounding structures . A half-timbered barn with a crooked hip and a cantilevered roof comes from the founding time of the place. On the Wassergrundring 48 property there is a gnomonic inexact marble sundial ; it was installed in 1979 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the village.
