history
In the second half of the 17th century, Bohemian exiles from Fugau settled opposite their hometown around the Fugau mountain on the corridors of the Niederoppach manor. In 1676 the Gersdorfisch Gütlein an der Fuge and in 1691 a house and the Neue Schänke an der Fuge were mentioned; it is probably the houses of Spreedorf, which are located directly on the Bohemian border. With the arrival of more Bohemian religious refugees, the settlement expanded around 1700 along Fugauer Strasse from the border to Kaiserstrasse , parallel to the border between Upper Lusatia and the Saxon enclave of Spremberg. At the beginning of the 19th century, the settlement had already expanded along the Kaiserstraße to the top of the Fuchsberg. In addition, in the middle of the 18th century, further groups of houses were built around the Krahberg and above the valley of the Beiersdorfer Wasser with the Katermautze and the Hatsche.
In the middle of the 19th century, the focus of the settlement shifted to the Fuchsberg after the Kaiserstraße was chaused. Neuoppach was always part of the municipality of Oppach.
After the Second World War, the old border crossing over the Spree to Fugau was closed, and in 1960 Fugau was finally razed to the ground. On April 1, 2006, the old Fugauer Strasse was reopened through a tourist border crossing between Oppach and Schluckenau .
The Catholic parish church of St. Antonius was built between 1978 and 1979.
