St. Stephanus (Bretzfeld)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Stephanus is a Catholic parish church in Bretzfeld .

history

Since there were hardly any Catholics in Hohenlohe due to the religious development since the Reformation , their number increased after the Second World War due to the influx of Catholic refugees and expellees. In 1946, a Catholic pastoral care district was established in Bretzfeld, which was cared for by the Catholic pastor in Affaltrach . In 1949 the pastoral care district already comprised 900 Catholics. At first there was no church of its own, services were held in Protestant churches, school rooms and event halls. In 1953 the parish finally acquired a building site in Bretzfeld and had Wilhelm Chardon from Neckarsulm draw up plans for a new church. The church was built in 1955/56 under the direction of the architect Eugen Denz , who represented the late Chardon. To St. Stephan the church was consecrated on October 7, 1956 by Auxiliary Bishop Wilhelm Sedlmeier . At the same time as the church, a Catholic youth home was built in Bretzfeld, also under the direction of Denz.

In 1959, the Bretzfeld pastoral care area, which was previously divided into three parishes, was transformed into an independent Catholic parish administration, which was elevated to a parish on June 15, 1961 .
