St. Ulrich's Church

St. Ulrich in Krumbach (Swabia) is the church of the village of Hürben, which was an independent village until 1902 . The church is baroque in appearance today , but the walls of the building are much older.

Building history

The oldest masonry that was found during the renovation of the Ulrichskirche in the 1980s was dated to around the year 1000. This makes it the oldest church in Krumbach and at the same time one of the oldest in the diocese of Augsburg .
The current building was built in 1438. A sandstone plaque inside the church provides information about this. In the 18th and 19th centuries the church got its current appearance.

Furnishing

The neo-baroque high altar was built towards the end of the 19th century. The altarpiece, a depiction of the crucifixion, was created in 1848 by Johann Baptist Dollenbacher. The pictures in the side altars were painted by the Fröschle family of painters between 1780 and 1790. Among the frescoes that Andreas Merck created around 1725 are depictions of St. Ulrich and the battle on the Lechfeld . The pulpit is from around 1850.

Others

Every year in Hürben the Ulrichsfest is celebrated on the 1st Sunday in July, as the 4th of July is the day of remembrance of St. Ulrich.
