St. Vitus Hegensdorf

history

The church was first mentioned by name in the middle of the 14th century. During an archaeological excavation, parts of an even older church were found, the period of which was built before 1150. The church building got its current shape after a renovation in the Romanesque period, when the entire church was re-vaulted and the choir was extended in the Gothic style. In 1736 a new church tower was built on the spot where a previous one had already stood.

A late medieval bell from the 15th century is now in the Diocesan Museum in Paderborn.
