St John's Cottage

St John's Cottage is a villa in the Scottish town of Maybole in the Council Area South Ayrshire . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

The building, erected in the early 19th century, is isolated on the western edge of Maybole. The main wing is constructed symmetrically. An elongated, two-story building section runs in the middle, protruding semi- octagonal in the northwest . At the southeast end it ends with a hip . One-story parts with pent roofs flank this part of the building. On the south-east side there are two single-story wings. The masonry consists of polished ashlar stones. The entrance area is on the northeast side. Windows flank the lower-lying part of the building with a round arch . The windows installed on the entire building are mostly twelve-part lattice windows . Two chimneys with cornices protrude from the slate roof .
