The Alecu Russo State University of Bălţi ( Russian Бельцкий государственный университет имени Алеку Руссо ; Romanian Universitatea de Stat "A.Russo» din Bălţi ) is a university in the Moldovan city of Balti . It is named after the Moldovan writer Alecu Russo .

The university was founded while the country was part of the Soviet Union and was initially called the "State Pedagogical Institute". It has had its current name since 1992. Today the university covers a wide range of study areas and has a scientific library. The training is usually in Russian and Romanian.
