The state vocational school for glass and jewelry in the Kaufbeur district of Neugablonz is a vocational school for the creative handicrafts sponsored by the city .

School operation

The pupils can learn four professions at the state vocational school for glass and jewelry:

All practical skills as well as the theoretical content are imparted in the school's own workshops. The three-year apprenticeship (38 hours per week) begins in September according to the Bavarian holiday regulations and ends with a state final examination, which is equivalent to the journeyman's examination in the craft. As in all state schools, there is no tuition fee here either.

history

The school goes back to the arts and crafts school founded in 1880 in the Bohemian town of Gablonz an der Neisse (Jablonec nad Nisou). It was set up by the responsible imperial and royal office for education and culture to promote the then flourishing Gablonz bijouterie and jewelry industry.

After the Second World War, displaced and resettled people from Gablonz an der Neisse founded the Neugablonz district in Kaufbeuren . The settlers brought their jewelry-making skills with them from their homeland, and after a short time an up-and-coming industry emerged in Neugablonz, which produced a wide variety of occupations. Neugablonz became the center of the German fashion jewelry industry.

In order to train the urgently needed skilled workers, the foundation stone for today's state vocational school for glass and jewelry was laid in the Kaufbeur district of Neugablonz in 1947. In the early years glassmakers, glass pushers, bead wrappers, glass refiners, needlers, estampeure, engravers, electroplaters and belters were trained.

In the course of time, the apprenticeships have changed, so that today glass and porcelain painters, goldsmiths, engravers and silversmiths are trained whose field of activity has now developed far beyond the borders of Neugablonz.

Projects and awards (selection)

The school is regularly involved in exhibitions and projects with well-known institutions in the field of design and handicrafts. The Danner class competition takes place within the school every year. The Danner Foundation also awards the so-called Danner Prize every three years as part of the state competition for craftspeople in Bavaria . The award, awarded by an international jury, now enjoys supraregional importance and has been awarded several times in the past to former students at the State Vocational School for Glass and Jewelry.
