history
Since 1939 an explosives factory was opened by Dynamit AG , formerly Alfred Nobel u. In the Kaufbeuren-Hart forest area northeast of Kaufbeuren . Co , set up to supply the German war economy with ammunition. Forced laborers from the nearby Riederloh satellite camp in Steinholz near Mauerstetten , a branch of the Dachau concentration camp , were used there.
After 1945 around 18,000 displaced persons and refugees from the region around Gablonz ( Jablonec nad Nisou in the Czech Republic ) settled on the site of the former explosives factory and rebuilt the jewelry and glass industry ( Gablonzer Bijouterie ) that had been left behind in their homeland . The name of the district changed from Kaufbeuren-Hart to Neugablonz due to the expulsion and resettlement.
Neugablonz is still a center of fashion jewelry production. The economic situation has changed, however, mainly due to the emergence of Asian “cheap” competition. However, there are still more than numerous companies in the Gablonz industry that design and manufacture costume jewelry and jewelry components.
Together with Neutraubling , Geretsried , Traunreut and Waldkraiburg , Neugablonz is one of the Bavarian expellee towns / communities / districts with a comparable war and post-war history.
In the last few years Neugablonz has developed into a center for ethnic German repatriates . Spätaussiedler make up around 40 percent of the population of Neugablonz with a number of 5200.
