Staats Island is a small island in the western Falkland Islands . The uninhabited island is off Beaver Island and lies between Weddell Island and Tea Island . On the approximately 5 km² large island, among other things, guanacos , the Argentine battle fox and Magellanic penguins are native. The introduction of the guanacos and foxes, similar to the other islands around Beaver Island, led to the disappearance of the tussock grass and a decline in the local bird population.
