Stack (poker)
In the card game poker, the sum of the values of the chips or tokens of a player is referred to as the stack ( [stæk] ; German "stacks" ) .
In the tournament, a player may at any time ask the question of the size of his opponent's stack; this must be answered truthfully. When in doubt, the dealer counts the chips.
Players who have the fewest chips (sum of chip values) are called short stacks or small stacks ; in contrast to the big stacks (the players with a lot of chips) or the chip leader , the player with the most chips.
If a player runs out of chips, he is eliminated from the current tournament. In some poker tournaments it is also possible to do a so-called rebuy and buy chips again. This is always possible for games without tournament character ( cash games ).
A stack of twenty chips of the same denomination is also called a stack , five stacks (i.e. 100 chips) are a rack .
