The Stackpole Rocks are a group of cliff rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . They lie in front of the southeastern part of the Byers Peninsula , the western extension of Livingston Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1958 after the American historian Edouard A. Stackpole (1903-1993), who had dealt with the history of whaling in the waters around the South Shetland Islands.
