The Hohenhorst Stadium is a combined football and athletics stadium in the Westphalian district town of Recklinghausen . The stadium was originally built as the home ground of Viktoria Recklinghausen , who played two seasons in the Gauliga Westfalen between 1933 and 1935 .
The stadium originally had a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Today there is room for 2,700 visitors on covered seats. A further 4,300 spectators can follow the action from concrete steps around the stadium. There are plans of the city of Recklinghausen to renovate the stadium and to increase it again to a spectator capacity of 25,000 - 30,000 visitors.
As an athletics stadium, the Hohenhorst offers eight synthetic running tracks and an obstacle running track with a moat.
On September 10, 2006, a game of the football world championship for people with disabilities took place in the Hohenhorst stadium. The future world champions Saudi Arabia defeated the England team 4-1 in the quarterfinals.
