The Stadionbad is one of the largest sports and leisure pools in Vienna and is located in the Prater in the 2nd district of Vienna, Leopoldstadt, next to the Ernst-Happel-Stadion .

Around 1925 there was a wooded area called "Rondeaumais" at this point of the Krieau (southeast of the dairy farm and northeast of the Prater-Hauptallee ). In 1928 the construction of the large sports facilities (especially the Prater Stadium) began. The green landscape of the Au was thereby reduced.

The stadium pool was built according to plans by Otto Ernst Schweizer and opened in 1931 to create a sports center together with the current stadium and a cycling track located there. In the opening year, competitions for the Workers' Olympics in Vienna were held here.

After the Second World War, the pool was initially only provisionally and only officially reopened on May 20, 1949. In 1956/57 the entire facility was rebuilt based on designs by Theodor Schöll .

The pool is designed for 6500 visitors, but there are also visitors with so-called “meadow cards”. The total area is 129,824 m², of which 6286 are built on. 966 cabins and an additional 3332 boxes are available to guests.

The pool has a 50 m swimming pool, a water polo pool (33 m) and a pool specially reserved for the 10 m diving platform. In addition, there is a wave pool (in operation every 10 minutes) with a wave machine , the wave output of which was greatly reduced in 2010, as well as several pools for children and two water slides .

Designed for competition purposes, the bath has a reinforced concrete grandstand with 2116 seats and standing room for other visitors. The bath also has a restaurant for 2000 guests and other catering establishments. Above the changing rooms for day and season guests, which also have numerous cabins, there are two sunbaths of around 200 m². In 2012 the area for women was completely modernized, in 2013 the wooden boxes of the post-war era also disappeared in the men's sector. The sanitary areas of the entire bathroom have now been newly adapted.

Today the pool is managed by Wiener Sportstätten Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (as part of Wien Holding) and is thus indirectly owned by the City of Vienna.
