Stadsgronings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stadsgronings is the dialect spoken by the residents of the northern Dutch city of Groningen ; it is part of the Lower Saxony language . While the use of this dialect was originally limited to the city of Groningen and, in a similar form, to the areas south of it, in the late Middle Ages it expanded to almost the entire province of Groningen, the Ommelande , where previously the East Frisian language was mostly spoken .

Today the use of Groning is generally declining in favor of the standard Dutch language.
