Construction year 1295-1330

The city fortifications in Kaiserslautern were built between 1295 and 1330.

The Kaiserslautern city fortifications only partially exist today; Remnants have been preserved around the streets and squares: Alleestraße, Matzenstraße, Schmiedeturm, Fackelstraße, Gaustraße, Grüner Graben, Klosterstraße, Ludwigstraße, Spittelstraße, Steinstraße, Willy-Brandt-Platz and Martin-Luther-Straße.

During the construction of the Palatinate Theater , inaugurated in 1995, remains of the city fortifications were discovered. Furthermore, remains from the earliest urban settlement were discovered, which goes back to the Neolithic and thus documents a 6000-year settlement history.
