history

Herbelsdorf, whose name probably goes back to the personal name of the town's founder "Haribold", was probably created in the 9th century. The first mention was in 1232 in the certificate of division of the Würzburg prince-bishop Hermann , in which Ebern was separated from the parish Pfarrweisach and "hergolsdorff" remained with the mother church. In 1317 Aplo, Theino and Hugelinus von Lichtenstein received the full tithe in “Herboltsdorf”.

In addition to the von Lichtenstein family, Herbelsdorf had changing partial owners in the 14th and 15th centuries, such as the Füllbach zu Gleusdorf , the Rotenhan , the Raueneck zu Lichtenstein and the parish of Ebern. From 1554 until the 19th century, the von Lichtenstein rulers were the village lords. In 1576 there were seven properties, five of which were licensed inns. After the Reformation , religious support for the evangelical Herbelsdorfers took place in Fischbach or Lichtenstein . Baptisms, weddings and funerals, however, were carried out by the Catholic pastor in Pfarrweisach until the re-parish in 1829 in Lichtenstein.

In 1818 the Lichtenstein community association was established, consisting of the parish village of Lichtenstein and the hamlets of Herbelsdorf, Dürrnhof and Buch . In 1862, Herbelsdorf and Lichtenstein were incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office in Ebern . The 813.90 hectare rural community Lichtenstein had 237 inhabitants in 1871, 217 of whom were Protestant, and 37 residential buildings. Herbelsdorf had 34 inhabitants. The evangelical denominational school was in Lichtenstein, 2.3 kilometers away.

In 1900, 29 people lived in 7 residential buildings in Herbelsdorf. In 1925, 30 people lived in 6 residential buildings in the hamlet. In 1950 the place had 37 residents and 5 residential buildings. The Catholics belonged to the parish of Pfarrweisach. In 1961 Herbelsdorf had 24 residents and 6 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 25 residents and in 1987 24 residents and 7 residential buildings with 7 apartments.

On July 1, 1972, the district of Ebern was dissolved and the municipality of Lichtenstein and Herbelsdorf became part of the Haßberg district. On January 1, 1978, the Lichtenstein community was incorporated with the Herbelsdorf district to Pfarrweisach.
