geography

The church village is located in the north-eastern part of the district a little off the beaten track at the foot of the Lichtenstein Forest in a valley through which the Schellenbach flows. It is around two kilometers from Pfarrweisach. One kilometer to the west, the federal road 279 runs from Breitengüßbach to Bad Neustadt an der Saale . In the area around Rabelsdorf, especially fruit is grown.

history

The place, whose name probably goes back to the personal name "Rabanolt", was created in the 9th century. It was originally located in a different, higher place, towards Altenstein .

The first mention was in 1232 in the certificate of partition of the Würzburg prince-bishop Hermann , in which Ebern was separated from the parish Pfarrweisach and "Rabenoldorff" remained with the mother church. In 1317 Aplo, Theino and Hugelinus von Lichtenstein received the whole tithe in Rabensdorf. After the destruction of the village in the Thirty Years' War , the settlement in a valley followed. In addition to the Ebern parish, the lords of Altenstein , von Lichtenstein and Wasmuthhausen, the Voit von Rieneck, owned fiefdoms in the Ganerbendorf .

In 1862 Rabelsdorf was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office Ebern . The 290.96 hectare rural community had 117 inhabitants in 1871, 110 of whom were Protestant, and 27 residential buildings. Rabelsdorf belonged to the district of the evangelical parish Altenstein, 2 kilometers away. The evangelical denominational school was also located there. In 1900 Rabelsdorf had 97 residents and 25 residential buildings. In 1925, 99 people, 21 of whom were Catholic, lived in 24 residential buildings in the church village. The place belonged to the district of the Catholic parish in Pfarrweisach, 2.5 kilometers away, where the Catholic school was located.

In 1950 the community had 155 residents and 24 residential buildings. The school in Junkersdorf was responsible for the Protestant students. In 1961 Rabelsdorf had 112 residents and 22 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 108 and in 1987 115 inhabitants and 27 residential buildings with 33 apartments. On July 1, 1971, Rabelsdorf was incorporated into the parish of Pfarrweisach as part of the regional reform . On July 1, 1972, the Ebern district was dissolved and Pfarrweisach and its district became part of the Haßberg district.

In 1993 Rabelsdorf won the competition "Our village should be more beautiful" from among 47 villages from ten federal states .

Attractions

Catholic branch church of St. Bartholomew

A church in Rabelsdorf was first mentioned in a parish description from 1547. The construction of today's Catholic branch church St. Bartholomäus followed in 1689. It is a simple hall building with a gable roof and a ridge turret with a pyramid roof. The church was restored in 1992. A bell with a diameter of 48 centimeters from 1559 hangs in the roof turret. The second bell with a diameter of 43 centimeters dates from 1589. The furnishings include a baroque pulpit from 1700 and a simple altar from 1689.

The house of God is a simultaneous church . When the Rabelsdorf Protestants moved to Altenstein in 1828, the evangelical majority in the village claimed the chapel for themselves. However, the Catholic parish Pfarrweisach insisted on its property rights. In 1897 she finally agreed to the use of both denominations.

Eight architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian list of monuments .
