The house and thus also the tower were designed by Alfred Hensen between 1902 and 1907 , after the Löwenapotheke, Stadtlegge and Stadtkeller, which had previously been in the same place, had been demolished. The town house itself was destroyed in air raids on Münster in World War II, but the tower survived the war almost undamaged.

For a while there was a mechanical telephone exchange in the basement of the tower.

Since 2001 there has been a carillon on the tower again, which could be installed through the cooperation of the Kulturstiftung der Sparkasse Münster , the Nonhoff brothers and the Münster City Home Association. Since then, the carillon has been ringing every day at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. In the "meteorological summer" (June to August), no beautiful country is consistently played during this time , from November 27th to January 6th, Christmas carols, including Rejoice, you Christians .

Since 2006 there has been a childcare facility called “Maxi Turm” in the tower.
