The Stadtmuseum Groß-Gerau is the local history museum of the district town Groß-Gerau .

history

The museum was founded in 1929 with exhibition rooms in the historic town hall on Frankfurter Strasse. In 1987 the city bought the former AOK building at Marktplatz 3 and set up the new city ​​museum there, which has been able to offer special exhibitions and events since 1989 and the first permanent exhibition from 1993 , followed by the current permanent exhibition in 2007 with two sections on Roman times and the city's history 1920–1990 was replaced.

Exhibitions

The two main sections of the permanent exhibition with the titles "The Romans in Groß-Gerau" (including finds from the Groß-Gerau fort ) and "We were there - city history 1920 to 1990" are linked by certain aspects. For example, the achievements of the Roman times are compared with those of the American occupation. Apart from these main sections of the permanent exhibition, the city museum presents exhibits on Groß-Gerau as the historical center of the Gerauer Land since the Middle Ages .

In the Wilhelm Altheim cabinet, pieces from the museum's collection of works by the painter Wilhelm Altheim are on display.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, special exhibitions are also regularly presented; the house is also used for cultural events.
