The City Museum and Gallery Břeclav is a museum of the city of Břeclav (German Lundenburg ), which is located in the secular synagogue. It is one of the most important cultural institutions in South Moravia. The museum has a neighboring modern exhibition building and the small Pohansko castle not far from the city.
history
The synagogue was built in the neo-Gothic style in 1868.
The museum and gallery have been located here since 1992.
Exhibitions
In addition to a permanent exhibition, the museum building also hosts changing exhibitions on archeology, history, folklore, nature and fine arts.
International cooperation
In 2006 the biennial "Vinspiration Břeclav 2006" took place here for the first time. It turned to international artists and was curated by a committee that included Museum Director Evženie Klanicová and Oskar Brúža, President of the Czech Artists' Association. A multilingual catalog was also published.
Since 2009 there has been a collaboration between the “City Museum and Gallery Břeclav” and the Lower Austrian Cultural Network . The first project of this cooperation was the organization of a joint Czech-Austrian symposium entitled “Art Symposium Breclav 2009”. This project was co-financed by the European Union as part of the “European Territorial Cooperation Austria-Czech Republic 2007-2013” program .
