inside view

The synagogue in Břeclav (German Lundenburg ), a South Moravian town in the Czech Republic , was built in 1868. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1992 .

history

The Jewish community formed in 1650 built its first synagogue in the 1670s. Two decades later, a partially new building took place because the dome had collapsed. Instead of the old synagogue, Rabbi Nathan Aron Müller inaugurated a new building in 1868 that offered space for more than 400 people.

The synagogue building was extensively renovated in the late 1990s and has served as a city museum and gallery ever since . The museum shows, among other things, an exhibition on the history of the Jewish community in Břeclav.

architecture

The synagogue in the neo-Romanesque style is a hall building with galleries on three sides . This can be reached through two stairwells with independent entrances.
