The Stadtpark is a listed green area in Treuenbrietzen , a town in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The park is located in the southern ring outside the historic city wall of Treuenbrietzen. It is bounded in the north-west by Bundesstraße 2 and by the residential buildings adjoining it to the south. The Parkstraße branches off from the B 2 to the southwest, crosses the Nieplitz and thus represents the southwestern border. To the east, the area is limited by Jüterboger Strasse , which leads north-south into the city center.

history

Memorial stone for CA Pauckert in the park

The park is based on an initiative by Carl August Pauckert . The son of a master tailor was born in the city on December 6, 1814. After his apprenticeship as a pharmacist , he took over the Adler pharmacy and became a member of the city council. Besides these activities his passion was botany ; part-time he researched the flora of his region. He designed the historic ramparts of the city (in the 21st century the Pauckert-Ring) and had a park laid out. In 1880 he was made an honorary citizen. Pauckert died on June 28, 1885 in Treuenbrietzen. In his memory, the city put a memorial stone in the park on the 20th anniversary of his death. In December 2004, craftsmen replaced two obelisks that had previously been dismantled and erected for the Soviet victims. In their place came two granite blocks, each weighing 10 tons. In autumn 2018, the city began a comprehensive renovation of the park. Under the direction of the Bad Belziger landscape architect Gunnar Lange, the memorials and monuments in the park will be renovated by 2019. The costs should amount to 525,000 euros; 165,000 for the honor grove and 357,000 euros for the parking areas around the bathing establishment.

Grove of Honor

Grove of Honor

In the southwest area of the park and north of the park stadium there is an honorary grove with the Trift cemetery. There the city commemorates the victims of the Franco-German as well as the First and Second World Wars . The grove can be entered from Jüterboger Straße. A first field there commemorates the fallen of the Red Army . Next to the names of the victims, the inscription can be read on a granite block:

"The fame of the heroes / who fell in the struggles / for the socialist homeland / will not fade / and over the centuries / their heroism will live / in the hearts of / millions of working people."

Another field separated by a hedge with a white obelisk commemorates the German victims of the Second World War. This is followed by a rectangular field to the west, which is dedicated to the victims of the Franco-German War and more than 160 victims from the First World War. In addition to the grave slabs, it consists of a stone lion in the middle of the grove and a statue in the western area, on which the goddess of victory Victoria stands.

additional

Outside the Ehrenhain, but still south of the Nieplitz, a memorial in the western area commemorates the German composer and pianist Friedrich Heinrich Himmel , who was born in the city on November 20, 1765. To the north of the Nieplitz, a small boulder indicates that there was once a Jewish cemetery here. To the east of this, a boulder reminds of Pauckert .

To the east is the only body of water in the park, the swan pond. To the west of the pond, the Nieplitz branches off to the north and east, thus spanning the historic town center. In the southwest is an outdoor swimming pool.
