history

A church was mentioned in documents in 1224 and a parish in 1242. The church was incorporated into the Seckau monastery from 1321 to 1782 .

The Gothic new building of the church was carried out in two sections, in 1435 the choir with 1451 consecration of the choir, the three-aisled nave hall was built after the middle of the 15th century. In 1945 the church was destroyed by aerial bombs, only the sacristy and parts of the choir remained. The new building, now facing south, from 1950 to 1957, was built according to the designs of the architect Friedrich Zotter . The Gothic choir was retained and now serves as a baptistery.

architecture

The church stands in a churchyard; remains of the old churchyard wall and a late Gothic cemetery portal have been preserved.

The former Gothic two-bay choir with a five-eighth closure is now a baptistery. Some of the three-quarter round services with niches, consoles and canopies have been preserved. One service mentions 1435. In addition, the former front arch has been partially preserved. In the former sloping choir is a niche with a nunnery. The Gothic shoulder-arched vestry portal has a door with Gothic iron fittings, as does the door opposite. The former Gothic two-bay sacristy has a ribbed vault on consoles, a console with a head. The north-east corner of the sacristy says 1454, the console in the north-east corner 1455, both dates are now walled into the east wall of the new church building.

The glass window Baptism of Christ in the end of the choir of the Gothic choir / baptistery was created by Lucia Jirgal (1955). The windows of the new church were created by Albert Birkle (1954/1955).

The new church is a hall space under a flat wooden ceiling with a raised staggered choir. The tower stands east of the choir.

Furnishing

The late Gothic crucifix at the high altar is from the beginning of the 16th century.

Franz Salesius Feltl names a bell in 1788.
