history

On November 1, 1830, after approval by the Prussian government, the Sparkasse zu Schwedt was set up as a "non-profit institution to stimulate the sense of economy". In 1879 she managed deposits of 1 million marks in 2,413 savings accounts. By 1900 the deposits had grown to 4 million marks. After the Sparkasse had previously been housed in the Old Town Hall, it moved in 1908 to a newly built administration building on Schloß Freiheit. In 1932 the Sparkasse moved back to the old town hall after new premises had been created there for 108,000 Reichsmarks .

After the Second World War , the Sparkasse lost its independence and became the main branch of the Kreissparkasse Angermünde. In 1956 the savings bank moved to the former district court building on Vierradener Platz and in 1962 it was renamed Stadtsparkasse Schwedt. In May 1966 she opened a branch in the PCK factory and in 1972 in the Centrum Warenhaus . In total, it operated five branches in Schwedt in addition to the headquarters.

During the political turning point of 1989/90 , monetary union with the Federal Republic of Germany took place on June 1, 1990 . The Sparkasse converted balances with a total value of 397 million GDR marks to 311 million German marks .
