Steel plate clutch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The steel lamina clutch or all-steel lamella clutch is a torsionally stiff , non-switchable clutch that compensates for misalignments.

functionality

A steel lamina coupling consists of two flanges, which are mounted on the ends of the shafts to be connected by means of a cylinder interference fit or feather key connection , and one or more plate packs. Depending on the shaft diameter and the torque that can be transmitted, a disk pack consists of four to eight steel disks. The most common is the double-cardanic steel lamina coupling: This coupling has two plate packs that are connected to one another by a sleeve. The length of the sleeve varies depending on the type of coupling; for special applications, sleeves made of fiber composite materials with lengths of up to six meters are available. The lamellas are made of spring steel and are alternately connected to the flange of the hub and to the sleeve with fitting screws . In this way, both a slight axial misalignment of the shaft ends and a slight angular misalignment (about 1.5 °) between the shaft axes can be compensated.

The transmission of torques in a steel lamellar clutch takes place through a combination of form fit and force fit . The lamellas do not require any lubrication and are therefore considered to be frictionless. In the case of double-cardanic steel lamina couplings, certain operating conditions can lead to an axial excitation of the sleeve. Attempts are made to counteract this effect by prestressing the steel plates.

application

Steel lamellar couplings are used in particular for large shaft diameters and can be found in paper machines , ship drives , wind turbines and steel mill technology . The maximum transmittable torque, which can be several 100 kNm, is correspondingly large. Widespread manufacturers of steel plate clutches are Flender , KTR , Mayr and Ringfeder.

The permissible temperature range of steel lamellar clutches is usually between −30 ° C and 300 ° C, with the permissible torque being reduced by a correction factor at temperatures from around 150 ° C.
