Summit of the Stakenberg

The Stakenberg is an elevation in the Hellberge in Saxony-Anhalt .

At 148.3 meters, the mountain, also known as the Großer Stakenberg, is the second highest elevation in this hilly landscape. The hill was formed during the Ice Age when large glaciers pushed debris to this point and left a terminal moraine landscape .

From the wooded Stakenberg there is a good view to the east on the eastern descent to the Ochsenkeller . On the mountain, which belongs to the Zichtau district, there is a sign with the official height information.

There is historical evidence that in 1597 there was a dispute between the municipality of Breitenfeld and the von der Schulenburg family, who owned Klötze Castle at the time , about the use of the wood on the hill. The Schulenburgs wanted to remove timber from the mountain known as the Staagenberge . After lengthy negotiations, Breitenfeld was able to prevail. Later the mountain came to the Zichtau estate run by the von Alvensleben family .
