Stan Britt

Stan Britt (* around 1935 in Beckenham , London ; † March 30, 2014 ) was a British journalist , jazz author and radio presenter.

Live and act

Britt worked in the editorial offices of the Daily Express and business newspapers before working as a freelance writer in the fields of jazz and blues . He wrote u. a. for Billboard , Music Week and the Melody Maker . He also submitted a number of books, including a biography on Dexter Gordon ( A Musical Biography ; 1989). He co-wrote The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz (Salamander, 1978) with Brian Case ; he also wrote The Jazz Guitarists (Blandford Press, 1984) and Frank Sinatra: A Celebration (Hamlyn, 1995). He contributed the chapter The Bebop Masters to the book Masters of Jazz (edited by Charles Alexander, Balafon, 1999). He also worked as a radio presenter and wrote liner notes for jazz CDs for the ReIssue label Proper Records. His archive of interviews, mostly with US jazz musicians, has been included in the National Sound Archive as a bequest .
