Stanley Crane (life dates unknown) was an English football player .

Career

The Liverpool-born Crane, who is said to have earned a good reputation in the Lancashire League , came in March 1901 as a test player to the second division Chesterfield Town . The club was at the bottom of the table and tried to "promote new talent". Chesterfield had dissolved his reserve team at the beginning of the season for cost reasons, community training sessions, if they existed at all, at that time consisted usually of conditioning units, so Crane's performance was tested in a regular league home game against Stockport County .

His appearance on the center runner position was described in the press as a "lamentable failure" and "pathetic performance" and was so below average that he was put on the left half-forward position after the half-time break , where he was "out of danger". Nevertheless, Chesterfield managed the sixth win of the season with a 4-2 win in adverse weather conditions, with Thedy Wallach another test player contributed two goals. Crane returned to Liverpool after the game.
