Stanley Island is a 3 km long and up to 520 m high island off the Foyn coast of Graham Land in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 6 km northeast of Spur Point in the western part of Cabinet Inlet .
Scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) mapped and named them in 1947. It is named after the British politician Oliver Stanley (1886–1950), who was instrumental in founding the FIDS. The first aerial photographs of the island were taken in 1947 during the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition .
