Starr Records was an American record label . Starr was the first label of the Starr Piano Company and was replaced by Gennett Records in 1919 .

history

The piano manufacturer Starr Piano Company founded their first label Starr Records in 1915 based in Richmond , Indiana . The first products were vertically recorded records , which were only sold in Starr stores. On the one hand, other dealers did not include the records in their range because the name was too closely associated with Starr Pianos or they feared conflicts with manufacturers of other piano producers (records were only sold in certain stores such as furniture stores or music stores at that time).

In 1917 the production of vertical records was therefore stopped. In 1919, Starr was replaced by the Starr Piano Company's new label - Gennett Records. In Canada , the US Gennett recordings were subsequently published under the name Starr, mainly novelty , jazz and pop . The label was discontinued in 1925.
