Stata is a statistic - software , for various operating systems is available. New versions are usually released every two years.

A large number of statistical models are implemented in Stata and the program can be expanded with your own software. With Stata, print-ready graphics can be created and data management is also possible for complex data sets ( panel , multilevel). Since version 9 a language for matrix calculations - called Mata  - has been integrated into the program. The functional scope of Stata thus approximated complex distributions like Mathematica . The version Stata 10, released in 2007, was equipped with a graphics editor.

service

Stata can be operated using menus , a command line and so-called DO files. Stata differs from other programs in that (almost) all standard functions are now accessible both via the syntax and via the menu. This allows irregular users to understand the syntax via the menus and then automatically transfer it to DO files for further use. Stata goes further (especially with graphics) than SPSS , for example , because syntax can be used to create a graphic that is ready for publication and does not need to be edited. A collaboration between Stata and LaTeX is possible. In addition, Stata is able to read and write Microsoft Office formats.

background

Stata sees itself as a statistical operating system. A programming language is available to the user, with which he can write his own Stata programs, so-called ADOs. These programs are made available via the Internet and can be obtained free of charge by other users (from the command line). All the formulas used in the program are disclosed in extensive documentation, which ensures a high level of transparency thanks to this and the use of ADO code in official functions.

Executions

All versions require a main memory, the size of which determines the maximum number of observations, of at least 512 MB and 250 MB hard disk space.
