The State House ( German Staatshaus ) is the official seat of the government and the President of Sierra Leone . It is located on Tower Hill with the Parliament building in the capital, Freetown . The current state house developed from the bastion of Fort Thornton , a national monument of Sierra Leone .
The building was erected from 1894 - and has since been rebuilt and expanded frequently - and initially served as the residence of the governors . Between 1961 and 1971 it was the seat of the Prime Minister of Sierra Leone.
Residences
In the 1980s and 1990s, the President lived in the Kabassa Lodge , which was completed in 1980 after two years of construction. Since 2012 the building has been privately owned by the family of the first President Siaka Stevens . The State Lodge has been the official residence of the Sierra Leonean President since the 2000s .
