Kabassa Lodge , rarely also Kabasa Lodge , is the former official residence of the head of state of the West African Sierra Leone .

The building encompasses approximately 10 hectares (25 acres ) of parkland and is located on Juba Hill in the capital, Freetown .

In 1978, President Siaka Stevens gave the International Construction Company the contract to build the Kabassa Lodge . The residence was handed over after two years.

In 1992 the lodge was occupied by Valentine Strasser and his followers during the coup . They confiscated everything in the house. Strasser also made this his official residence.

The ownership of the lodge is unclear. While the majority of Sierra Leoneans consider these state-owned, Stevens bequeathed them to his children in his will . In 2012, President Ernest Koroma gave the villa to Stevens' descendants, who converted it into several residential units. The condition of the Kabassa Lodge (as of 2015) can be described as poor.

Currently (as of March 2020) the State Lodge (or Presidential Lodge , 8 ° 27 ′ 40.2 ″  N , 13 ° 15 ′ 23.5 ″  W ) in the Hill Station district is the official residence of the Sierra Leonean President.
