State of America with Kate Bolduan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

State of America with Kate Bolduan was a half-hour politics discussion program broadcast in English on CNN International . The discussion was moderated by Kate Bolduan . The program ran from 2017 to July 2018 on working days. From October 2018 the broadcast date was changed to a weekly broadcast. Issues of US domestic and foreign policy were discussed. The show emerged from Kate Bolduan's coverage of the 2016 US presidential election , which she presented on State of the Race with Kate Bolduan . The broadcast was discontinued on September 20, 2019.

For the first 10 minutes, Bolduan summarized the day's political events in her own way. After a commercial break, the mostly 4-person panel (English for committee, committee or forum) met. It was spoken live in the studio. Sometimes the panel was in conversation via live video conference call. The panel consisted of both CNN commentators and non-CNN staff, both Democrats and Republicans and party independents. The guests could be journalists or media workers in general, as well as former members of the military, political advisers and politicians. The background of the panel members varied across the board.

The discussion was conducted in a relaxed time-slice process, with Bolduan asking the speakers questions, giving them time to answer and discussing, and intervening in an emergency.

The discussion was mostly humorous and analytical, trying to understand the meaning of the statements and possible intentions of various politicians and the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump . It was discussed how to deal with so-called fake news and the possible consequences of political decisions or their omission. Current events were also discussed. It was tried to take into account that the audience was international. The entire panel had a wealth of experience.

Controversy with Carl Higbie over the protection of anonymous sources

In May 2017, one of Kate Bolduan's guests, Republican Trump supporter Carl Higbie, requested disclosure of an anonymous source . The connection was that Donald Trump had shared secret information with the Russian ambassador Sergei Kisljak , which could have led to the disclosure of the source of this information. Higbie demanded that the anonymous source speaking about this incident be disclosed as well. He and Bolduan argued about it on camera (she was absolutely against it).

Carl Higbie is known for his controversial to provocative comments, which, among other things, led to his having to leave the Trump team in January 2018 because of racist comments he made in 2013 and 2014 regarding blacks and Muslims.

The protection of sources, which in America is called reporter's privilege , was Bolduan's authority and responsibility. The right to refuse to testify is protected in America by shield laws .
