The Ferden reservoir is a reservoir on the Lonza in the Lötschental . It is located at about 1300 m. ü. M between the two villages of Ferden and Goppenstein in the canton of Valais and belongs to the municipality of Ferden.
Weather damage
An avalanche triggered by heavy snowfall in February 1999 did not cause any direct damage to the dam, but it did endanger the runoff on the air side. In addition, the access gallery was badly damaged. Due to a storm in 2011, power generation had to be stopped and the turbines replaced.
Lötschen power plant
The reservoir is part of the Lötschen power plant owned by Kraftwerk Lötschen AG. In addition to the lake, this includes the power generation center. There, at a head of around 660 m and a water volume of 21.5 m³ / s, two Pelton turbines with a nominal speed of 500 / min and an installed electrical output of 110 MW produce an average of 330 GWh of electricity per year.
