Ferden and lower Lötschental

Ferden (in the Valais German local dialect: Fäärdan [ˈfæːrdan] ) is a municipal and civic community in the Westlich Raron district and a parish of the Raron dean's office in the German-speaking part of the Swiss canton of Valais .

geography

Ferden is located in the lower Lötschental , at the foot of the Ferdenrothorn on the Lonza , which is dammed up to the Ferden reservoir south of the village . The hamlet of Goppenstein , where the south portal of the Lötschberg tunnel is located , also belongs to Ferden .

Ferden has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch since 2007 .
