The Lonza is a 22 kilometer long river in the Swiss canton of Valais . It rises on the Lang glacier and then flows through the high-lying Lötschental . It then flows through a gorge below Goppenstein and flows into the Rhone at Gampel .

The Lonza is characterized by rapid and very difficult white water on its mobile section between Blatten and the reservoir near Ferden . At the confluence with the Rhone, the Lonza forms the border between the villages of Gampel and Steg and the districts of Leuk and Westlich Raron .

The Lonza Group , which operates in the life sciences , is named after her.
