Location of the municipality | |
Wiler (Lötschen) , in walliser German local dialect Wiilär [ʋiːlər] is a Munizipalgemeinde and a Burgergemeinde of West Raron district and a Parish of Dekanats Raron in the German part of the Swiss Canton Wallis .
geography
Wiler is one of the four communities in the Lötschental , along with Ferden , Kippel and Blatten .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1363 as Wyllere . In 1900, on the “red blessed Sunday” (June 17th), almost the entire village was reduced to rubble by a conflagration . In 1876 and 2011, the Milibach also brought devastation. The place (like the whole valley) was not developed until 1953 with a road for motor vehicle traffic.
Infrastructure
Wiler is the location of the common kindergarten and the common primary school of the four Lötschental communities. The orientation school is located in the neighboring village of Kippel .
The place is the tourist and sporting center of the Lötschental. A cable car, opened in 1972, leads from Wiler to the Alpe Lauchernalp at an altitude of almost 2000 m, where there is a holiday resort and a skiing area.
