Tongxiang ( Chinese 桐乡 市 , Pinyin Tóngxiāng Shì ) is an independent city with 660,000 inhabitants (2004) in the north of the Wu- speaking province of Zhejiang in the People's Republic of China . It has a total area of 723 km² and belongs to the administrative area of the district-free city of Jiaxing . Tongxiang has a problem with water pollution .
Administrative structure
At the community level, Tongxiang is composed of three street districts, nine large communities and one community. These are:
- Road quarter Wutong (梧桐街道), seat of the city government;
- Road quarter Fengming (凤鸣街道);
- Quarter Road Long Xiang (龙翔街道);
- Greater community Puyuan (濮院镇);
- Greater Tudian Community (屠 甸 镇);
- Greater community Gaoqiao (高桥镇);
- Greater community Heshan (河山镇);
- Greater community Wuzhen (乌镇镇);
- Greater community Shimen (石门镇);
- Greater Dama Municipality (大麻 镇);
- Greater community Chongfu (崇福镇);
- Greater community Zhouquan (洲泉镇);
- Tongfu Township (同 福 乡).
Demographics
In the 2000 census, Tongxiang had 713,399 residents. Of these, 99.30% were Han Chinese , 0.25% Miao , 0.22% Tujia , 0.04% Zhuang , 0.04% Bouyei , 0.03% Yi , 0.02% Dong , 0.01% Hui and 0.09% other ethnic group of China.
Town twinning
A partnership with Bandırma in Turkey has existed since 2002 .
