Bürchen ( Valais German : Birchu ) is a municipality and a civic community of the district west Raron and a parish of the deanery Raron of the German-speaking part canton of Valais in Switzerland .

geography

Bürchen is located on a plateau facing west above Visp or Raron . The local border extends from Turtig in the valley floor to 640 m above sea level. M. to the Violengrat at 2810 m above sea level. M. In the south and east of the villages of Visp, bordering Zeneggen and Törbel on, from the west and north is Raron Unterbäch . The municipal area is 13.41 km², with only 5.4% being used as settlement area. 55.3% are forested and 25.7% are used for agriculture.

The townscape of Bürchen is characterized by its typical scattered settlement character with many individual hamlets .

A winter sports area belongs to Bürchen , which is connected to that of the municipality of Törbel .
