The Stavenstrasse

The Stavenstraße is a street of Lübeck .

location

The approximately 130-meter-long Stavenstraße in the Johannis Quartier begins at the Aegidienkirche , at the convergence of St.-Annen-Straße , Aegidienstraße and Balauerfohr . It then runs in a south-easterly direction until it meets the street An der Mauer and ends.

history

The earliest recorded name of the street is the Latin name Platea Noe in 1290, where Noe refers to the biblical figure of Noah . In the specific case it was possibly the name of a clergyman who was resident in the street or had some other connection with it.

Variants of this oldest name were used until the 14th century (for example 1239 Noelstrate , 1344 Platea Nogelis and Noyelesstrate , 1386 Platea Nyelis ), before a falsification of the name gained the upper hand at the beginning of the 15th century ; 1421 Platea Danelis is noted as the street name, 1456 Danelstrate , 1570 Danielstrate .

At the same time, in the 15th century, an alternative name was used in parallel: The name Platea Stubae was first recorded in writing in 1436 , derived from a bathing room located here in the building with today's house number 33, which existed until 1807. In 1490 the Low German form Stavenstrate is recorded, which in 1852 became the officially established current name of Stavenstraße .
