Steen Skovsgaard

Steen Skovsgaard (born September 30, 1952 in Odense ) is a Danish Lutheran clergyman and emeritus bishop of the Danish People's Church .

Life

After finishing school, Skovsgaard studied Protestant theology at Aarhus University . He then worked as a pastor and from 1997 also as provost in Aarhus . There he was in charge of the Gellerup district , which is particularly characterized by immigrants, and was therefore particularly concerned with the relationship between Christianity and Islam.

In June 2005 Skovsgaard was elected bishop of the Lolland-Falster diocese and took office in September 2005. In September 2016, he announced that he would resign on August 1, 2017 for reasons of age. Marianne Gaarden has been his successor since September 1, 2017 .

Skovsgaard authored several books. In retirement he is working at Aarhus University on a dissertation on the concept of the Last Judgment in Islam.
