Marianne Gaarden

Marianne Gaarden (born February 4, 1964 in Brønderslev ) is a Danish Lutheran theologian. Since 2017 she has officiated as bishop in the diocese of Lolland-Falster in the Danish national church .

Life

After graduating from an art school in Barcelona in 1990 , Gaarden studied Protestant theology at the University of Copenhagen and passed the candidate exam in 2005. She then taught at the pastoral seminar of the Danish People's Church until she became parish priest in Hillerød in 2006 . In 2007 she moved to Præstø - Skibinge in the same position . In 2011 she took a position at the training institute of the Danish People's Church in Løgumkloster , where she was also able to work on a dissertation on a topic of homiletics . After completing her doctorate at Aarhus University in 2014, she became a theological advisor in the Diocese of Helsingør the next year . In addition, she held a teaching position at Vanderbilt University from 2014 to 2017 .

After Steen Skovsgaard resigned from office , she narrowly prevailed against the opposing candidate Christina Rygaard Kristiansen in the second round of the bishopric in June 2017. She took over the office of bishop on September 1, 2017 and was introduced to her office on September 10, 2017 in the Cathedral of Maribo .

Gaarden is widowed and has two grown sons. In her second marriage she is married to the theologian and educator Michael Schelde .
