Stefan Bücker (born July 14, 1959 in Münster ) is a German chess player and chess author.
Bücker became known primarily as a chess journalist. Since 1991 he has been editor of the chess report and from August 1993 he was responsible for national events as head of the service. In August 1996 he took over the editor-in-chief from Günter Lossa - a few months later the chess report was transferred to the magazine Schach . Bücker then founded a new magazine, Kaissiber , which he headed for many years as a publisher, editor and editor-in-chief. The previous issue No. 37 was published in April 2010.
As early as the mid-1980s, Bücker had come out with investigations into unusual chess openings . He developed and named, among other things, the vulture and the Habichd , two seldom played variants that can arise from the Benoni defense . In the king's gambit , Bücker examined the rejection of the gambit with 2.… Qd8 – f6. The name of this "Nordwalder variant" is reminiscent of his former association Königsspringer Nordwalde .
Bücker has the title of FIDE master . In 1983 and 1988 he won the championship of North Rhine-Westphalia, in 1984 he finished fifth in the German individual championship , and in 1987 he finished eleventh. From 1989 to 1994 he played for the SF Dortmund Brackel 1930 in the first federal chess league .
His older brother Peter Bücker (1957–1990) was also a strong chess player and FIDE master.
