Stefan Baumgärtner

Stefan Baumgärtner (* 1968 ) is a German sustainability economist at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

education

Stefan Baumgärtner received his doctorate in sustainability economics from the University of Heidelberg under Malte Faber in 1999 .

research

Stefan Baumgärtner is best known for the application of thermodynamic principles in human-environmental systems. In addition, in his current research he has helped shape the knowledge about the insurance value of nature. Since October 2010, Stefan Baumgärtner has been director of the Institute for Sustainability Control at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg , which deals with legal and (forest) educational issues in sustainability. In 2014 he moved to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. Since 2007 he has also been a lecturer at the University of Zurich .

He works on the monetary value of ecosystems (ecosystem services) and is involved in the DFG project COMTESS and ECCUITY.
